The age of disruption in logistics is unyielding, but today is a remarkable moment in the industry. Every year, companies partnering with or following the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) celebrate National Logistics Day on June 28. The 2023 holiday marks the fifth annual day of recognition, and June is celebrated as TIA’s Member Appreciation Month.

With logistics and service providers acting as an often-faceless process to many people, setting aside time to think about the day and the role of logistics companies and professionals in the industry can be challenging. But first, it’s important to know a few things about the history and relevance of this observed day.

The History of National Logistics Day

The origin of National Logistics Day started in 2019 at the TIA. And the day is only part of a more significant acknowledgment and remembrance of the logistics industry. The TIA has designated June as Member Appreciation Month. 


Since then, the pandemic taught everyone the importance of “essential workers,” the frontline people supporting the world throughout and after the pandemic. In fact, there have been several core developments to give even further credit to the industry and this day that go beyond the TIA. 


The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania issued a House Resolution naming National Logistics Day an official state holiday in 2021. In 2022, the US House of Representatives issued a formal Congressional Record honoring June 28 as National Logistics Day. With an industry that encompasses 10% of all workers,

Ways to Celebrate National Logistics Day

There are many ways to celebrate this day of recognition, ranging from office parties to taking a few moments to appreciate its grandeur and impact. Sometimes, a simple “thank you” is the best way to observe and appreciate those serving the vital roles in the logistics industry. Here are a few simple ways to celebrate the holiday beyond the typical office party.

 

  1. Post on Social Media, Sharing Your Acknowledge of Today!
  2. Say, “Thank You,” to Your Local Delivery Drivers and Carriers
  3. Acknowledge These Hardworking, Frontline Workers. 
  4. Offer Bottled Water to Drivers, a Must Throughout This Record-Setting Summer. 
  5. Remember the Third-Parties, Like GEODIS, That Work to Unify Drivers and Freight Too!

Whatever you do to celebrate, just be sure to take a moment to think about the fantastic journey behind everything you use.
